CentraState HospitalAmbulatory Campus, Freehold, NJ

The newly constructed, 171,000-square-foot Star & Barry Tobias Ambulatory Campus was designed to represent the future of modern healthcare: a multipurpose, out-patient facility
enriched by state-of-the-art technologies to support not just the treatment of illness but wellness education. The integration of presentation and video communication technologies to support
this transformation fell to Verrex.
CHALLENGES
Facility-wide integration of AV technologies was one part of CentraState’s initiative to position the Ambulatory Campus as a modern, wellness-education leader. Verrex was tasked with
helping the hospital address the growing complexity of out-patient care needs by integrating systems that could contribute to a patient-centric atmosphere, encourage
staff collaboration and improve quality of service. The hospital required advanced audiovisual capabilities within a strict budget.
SOLUTION
Verrex Design Engineering teams conducted extensive equipment research to provide CentraState with capabilities within their set budget. Where integrity could be
maintained, several existing systems were upgraded rather than replaced. Verrex ensured a comprehensive needs analysis played a key role in understanding and meeting the complex project scope.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
AV integration of CentraState’s Ambulatory Campus included Conference Center, Health Awareness Center, main lobby and various ancillary areas such as waiting rooms.
The Conference Center is a multiple-use facility serving the hospital’s needs and is a rental resource for other healthcare concerns. As a venue for meetings, conferences, lectures and
presentations by diverse personnel, both internal and external, intuitiveness of the AV systems was paramount.
The Conference Center houses an executive boardroom, three-section divisible auditorium, two-section divisible conference room and two small conference rooms.
The boardroom serves the meeting needs of the center’s Board of Directors, integrated with audio, videoconferencing and presentation technologies. A motorized 119" front projection
screen displays video and computer images via an LCD projector sourced from DVD, cable TV, computer, codec or feed from the Conference Center distribution system.
The multi-divisible auditorium can be set up as three separate spaces, a dual space or one large space, allowing users flexibility in room configuration and operation.
When the space is divided each of the auditorium’s three ceiling-mounted LCD projectors and 132" screens can act independently, capable of displaying three separate
presentations, each controlled by a touchpanel. As a combined space, a single presentation can be shown on all screens simultaneously. Each section also features its own
voice reinforcement system.
A teaching and outreach facility for sharing wellness information in the community, the Health Awareness Center was integrated with extensive presentation capabilities. Classrooms, including the“Life Begins” and “Drug Prevention” clinics, feature rear
projection screens, LCD projectors and computer, DVD and cable TV sources. For presenting to smaller groups or individual patients, multiple consulting rooms were equipped with 42" wall-mounted plasmas displaying content from computer or DVD.
RESULTS
Since its opening, the Ambulatory Campus has redefined CentraState’s role as a community hospital. Integration of advanced AV that supports staff needs, out-patient services and education has
helped the hospital meet its goal of providing a broader spectrum of modern healthcare services to the community.
