Pace University’s World Trade Institute (WTI) was forced to relocate after its home in the North Tower of the World Trade Center was lost on 9/11. Moving to a 14-story historic building in downtown Manhattan, the University made plans to incorporate the latest in AV technology into the 70-year-old facility, including a cost effective remote control solution. WTI’s design consultant selected Verrex to handle all of the project’s cabling and installation tasks.
The project consisted of one videoconferencing suite, seven classrooms and one multipurpose room, all with control systems and front projection displays.
CHALLENGES
The University’s schedule required construction in phases over a one year period. Low ceilings with only 6 inches of plenum clearance presented a challenge for cable installation and plaster walls and concrete-slab ceilings required an innovative solution for wall surface wiring and projector mounting.
SOLUTION
Working within the University’s schedule restrictions, Verrex was able to complete the project during the summer and winter breaks. JBL Control 24/Micro ceiling speakers were installed in the tight ceiling spaces and Extron’s MediaLink System provided a cost effective control solution. Close coordination with the architect, all ceiling trades and the general contractor ensured the project was completed on time and within budget.
SYSTEM HIGHLIGHTS
